Piazza Cahen
Spring 2009
This was a theoretical group project located in the first of the main piazzas on the hill-town of Orvieto, Italy. From this large open transitional area, main arterial streets branched off, providing heavy amounts of local and tourist traffic. Our primary intervention was located on the existing site of the funicular, the primary means of transportation from the hill-town to the train station below. The concept of our structure was that of the clouds that sometimes shroud the town. Opposite the rigid, traditional buildings across the main transverse street, our structure provided an interesting contrast. Other improvements to the site included a much-needed bus roundabout and a speed bump to allow foot traffic to safely cross the limitless automotive traffic.
